Marijuna arrest,1st offence?

my son recieved a misdemenor on marijuna and a pipe,in KS,we live in Mich,they said he would be able to take care of it over the phone since he's ut of state,will this be on his record forever? he wanted to apply for the state trooper program,is there a way to get it off your record?
