Why does National Geographic's ancestory dna test require a father/brother sample if ur a girl?

They require a sample from your dad or full brother in addition to your own if you're a girl,but if it's a guy sending it in,he can just swab his cheek and submit it..what's different about the dna structure of a girl that requires the additional submission?
